“Essex High School “”We The People”” Team”

“A group of about 25 students from Essex High School in Vermont met with Senator Sanders on the steps of the United States Capitol to gain a better understanding of the work he does and how the issues being debated in Congress affect their lives. The students are all members of their high school’s “We the People” team, which won the Vermont state competition and were in Washington, D.C. representing Vermont at the national competition. – -We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution is a program sponsored by the Center for Civic Education and whose goals are to promote civic competence and responsibility among students. The program consists of an academic class and a national competition, in which state teams test their knowledge before a panel of judges.”
