WASHINGTON, D.C. Sept. 22 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement today after the announcement of the death of Master Sgt. Shawn Stocker of the Vermont Air National Guard while on duty during disaster relief efforts:

“We mourn the death of Master Sgt. Shawn Stocker of the Vermont Air National Guard who died on duty in the course of Operation Green Mountain Spirit.

“As Vermonters have come together to cope with the natural disaster that hit our state, we have numerous instances of courage and service, but none more noteworthy than Shawn Stocker.  Master Sgt. Stocker exemplifies the commitment to helping one’s neighbors and serving one’s community that is a foundation of life in Vermont.  All throughout the state we mourn his passing.  We extend our condolences to Kristine, to his children and to his parents, Daniel and Ruth Stocker.”
