WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 – Vermont won more than $3.1 million in
Federal Highway Administration competitive grants, including funds to repair the Longley Covered Bridge in Montgomery and the Brown Covered Bridge in Shrewsbury, the congressional delegation announced today.
Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) announced the awards. “Vermont fared very well in this very competitive round of funding,” they said. “These grants will make possible
important transportation projects that will put people to work, attract new
investments, make our communities more livable, and spur new economic activity in Vermont.”
Of the nearly 1,500 requests submitted nationally, the
following projects were selected for funding:
- Longely Covered Bridge, Montgomery $850,000
- Brown Covered Bridge, Shrewsbury $850,000
- Lake Champlain Byway $35,200
- Stone Valley Byway (Manchester to Castleton) $81,920
- Crossroad of Vermont Byway (West Rutland to Hartford) $10,300
- The Shires of Vermont Byway (Pownell to Manchester) $62,224
- Maple Street Reconstruction, Weathersfield $631,090
- Burlington Traffic Improvement $300,000
- St. Albans Lake Street $300,000
