Sanders Statement on Vermont Veterans’ Home

BURLINGTON, Vt., Sept. 26 – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement today after the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services allowed Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington to keep federal funding:

“As a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I strongly believe that as a nation we have a shared responsibility to make sure that the men and women who have served this nation honorably receive the highest quality health care, housing and other benefits they deserve.  There simply is no excuse for providing anything less.

“I believe that goal can be best achieved if the federal government continues to work constructively with the state of Vermont to improve care at the Vermont Veterans Home.

“That is why I urged officials in Washington to give the state time to address the shortcomings at the Vermont Veterans Home.  I am very pleased that they have done just that.”
