Sanders Calls on Trump to Keep His Promise to Defend Social Security

WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement Monday on President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to protect Social Security:

“There are many seniors, disabled vets and people with disabilities who are very nervous about Republican proposals to cut Social Security. In my view we should be expanding Social Security, not cutting it. But, at the very least, now is the time for Mr. Trump to reassure the American people that he will keep the campaign promise he made when he said, ‘I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.’ Mr. Trump, keep your promise.”
