BURLINGTON, Vt., Nov. 1 – In an interview with The Washington Post on Thursday, Donald Trump’s top economic adviser Larry Kudlow said, “My view is a federal minimum wage is a terrible idea. A terrible idea…. And I would argue against state and local but that’s up to the states and localities.”

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) responded to Kudlow’s comments, saying: “Donald Trump tells us that he stands with American workers. That’s a lie.  As president, he and Republicans gave huge tax breaks to billionaires. Now, they want to abolish the minimum wage. That’s wrong. If you work 40 hours a week, you should not live in poverty. The simplest way to give a raise to 41 million Americans is to increase the federal minimum wage to a living wage – $15 an hour, and that’s exactly what my legislation will do.”

Sanders has introduced legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. The bill is supported by 30 Democrats in the Senate and 172 members of the House.
