“Senator Bernie Sanders welcomed Tamari Kashibadze (left) and Anzhela Mashakada (right) to his office in Washington, DC. The high school students are studying in Vermont for the year as part of the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program. FLEX, a program administered by the U.S. Department of State, provides opportunities for high school students (ages 15-17) to spend a year in the United States, living with a host family and attending an American high school. The goal of the program is to promote long-lasting peace and mutual understanding between the U.S. and countries of Eurasia. Tamari, from Georgia, and Anzhela, from Ukraine, talked with Senator Sanders about their educational experiences in the United States.”
