WASHINGTON, November 11 — Today, Senator Sanders (I-Vt.) released the following statement:
“On this Veterans Day we must renew our promise to our nation’s veterans, not just through our words but through real action. Too many of our returning service members confront homelessness, mental health issues, and even deportations. We must work together to build a society where our veterans do not have to face these injustices.
In my view, it is a disgrace that 38,000 veterans are homeless. If you can’t afford to take care of your veterans, then you do not go to war. We must use this day to recommit to protecting our veterans’ health care. Veterans overwhelmingly approve of the VA—that means we need to strengthen the VA, not dismantle or privatize it. This means that we preserve, protect and improve the VA with more resources and staff to ensure veterans and their families in Vermont and around the country receive every benefit they have earned and deserve.”
