A solar energy plant is being built in California that will generate as much electricity as a small nuclear power plant. It will harness energy from the sun to provide electricity in a way that is economical, efficient and environmentally friendly. It will produce none of the heat-trapping greenhouse gases that coal-powered plants emit. The technology works. Together with wind, geothermal and other renewable energy sources, solar power is a major part of the solution to the problem of global warming. Senator Bernie Sanders put a spotlight on this solar project during a hearing Thursday of the Senate environment committee.
Sanders is working to strengthen support for solar power and other alternative sources of energy in a global warming bill now under consideration by the Senate Environment and Pubic Works Committee.
