It is no secret that our criminal justice system is broken and in need of major reforms. We have to ask ourselves if we are in the business of punishment, or if we do have a duty of preventing crime and rehabilitating people. I am proud that the Lamoille Restorative Center and a number of other centers around Vermont are taking an alternative approach to the traditional criminal justice system and taking the profit motive out of it.
